To support the management of invasive exotic plants in the Northern Rocky Mountain states by providing a forum for the exchange of scientific, educational and technical information.
The Northern Rockies Invasive Plant Council (NRIPC) is a newly formed organization to support the management of invasive exotic plants in the northern Rocky Mountain states by providing a forum for the exchange of scientific, educational and technical information.
The inception of the NRIPC began at the Invasive Species in Natural Areas Conference this past February in Missoula, Montana where university and agency researchers met for 2 1/2 days with land managers of the Rocky Mountain States to discuss possibilities and problems specific to the management of invasive species in natural areas. 220 participants from 7 states and 2 Canadian provinces attended 60 presentations. Over 100 of the participants surveyed agreed that an official non-profit Invasive Plant Council should be formed.
The four conference organizers decided to move forward with this idea. The NRIPC was incorporated in the state of Idaho in September of 2008. Official non-profit status paperwork was sent to the IRS in November 2008. The NRIPC is now awaiting approval from the IRS which can take up to 4 months. Once official non-profit status is approved, all interested parties and past conference participants will be notified of a public meeting to discuss future goals.
The NRIPC is planning on organizing another conference in 2010. Date and location to be announced.
The current Board of Directors are the past conference organizers who are as follows:
Marijka Haverhals, President
Mark Schwarzlaender, Vice President
John Gaskin, Secretary
Marilyn Marler, Treasurer
