History
Creation of the Northern Rockies Invasive Plant Council began at the 1st Invasive Species in Natural Areas Conference held in February, 2008 in Missoula, Montana, where university and agency researchers met for 2 1/2 days with land managers of the Rocky Mountain States to discuss problems specific to management of invasive species in natural areas. Two-hundred twenty participants from seven states, CABI Europe-Switzerland, and two Canadian provinces attended 60 presentations. Over 100 of the participants responded to an online survey and decided in the final plenum session that an official non-profit Invasive Plant Council should be formed.
The conference organizers decided to move forward with this idea. The NRIPC has since been incorporated in the state of Idaho and was granted official 501(c)3 status. The NRIPC board of directors (composed of the original conference organizers) is working enthusiastically to organize the next conference at the Coeur d'Alene Resort in October of 2010.
International Participation
Although the meeting is located in the U.S., it is by no means restricted to U.S. researchers. We have already confirmed plenum speakers from Europe and encourage colleagues from other continents to attend and present.
